Irish Language Cafe wins big at Cathaoirleach Awards 2025

The Ballyhaunis Language Café took home the win for Best Irish Language Initiative at the 5th Annual Mayo County Council Cathaoirleach's Awards 2025 ceremony at the Breaffy House Hotel on March 5, 2026 for the Irish Cafe.
Ballyhaunis Language Cafe started out in 2018, offering Irish language lessons to newcomers to our community.
In 2019 we started a weekly conversation group
We cooperated with Conradh na Gaeilge on their programme for ‘people from new communities’ learning Irish for the first time.
We also received helps from MSLETB to start our weekly classes in 2022 with muinteoir Colm
Our classes are special because they’re inclusive, for beginners and improvers.
Our students come from all ages and all cultures but they all enjoy the craic and the camaraderie of our classes.
Aside from our classes we have a weekly ‘Café Gaeilge’ hour on Sunday evenings for those ready to converse.
