The Ballyhaunis Community Council are excited to announce an exciting programme of events for Heritage Week 2025.
National Heritage Week celebrates Ireland's cultural, built and natural heritage. It brings together volunteers, community groups and heritage enthusiasts from August 16-24, 2025.
Programme of events for Heritage Week 2025
Wool Craft Day (Sun, 17th August, 12-5:30pm)
“From Fleece to Garment: A Foundation of Slow Fashion.”
A full of workshops led by fiber artists in knitting, weaving, spinning and crochet. In addition, special speaking are invited to discuss the foundation of slow fashion and how community and craftsmanship are the core of rural and economic equity.
🧶Annie Gambrill represents Galway Wool Collective. Annie rears her own sheep for wool and works with native Irish breeds.
🐑Jessica Leonard is Co-director of Fibreshed Ireland. She and her team raises awareness about responsible production and consumption of textiles and sustainability to form regenerative fiber systems.
🧵Joe Queenan is the MD of Foxford Mills and the steward of Founder Mother Agnes's vision of improving livelihoods and prospects for the area.
Workshops are limited to 10 persons with a donation of €20 per person going towards supplies and materials.
Free Children's weaving workshopheld throughout the day.

Forged Gates (Sat, 23rd August, 6-10pm)
Multimedia exhibition on forged (wrought iron) farm gates, a symbol of Irish attachment to land and rural craftmanship.
High Nelly Nostalgia (Sat, 23rd August, 6-10pm)
An audiovisual presentation by Ballyhaunis Bike Clinic on the high nelly bicycle, once manufactured in Ireland. They’ll also present two high nellies recently refurbished by the group.
Plus, exhibition of photos taken over the years by the late Henry Madden.
All events take place in the Ballyhaunis Community Hall.
